Wood can be an attractive choice for your garden flooring, pergola, and outdoor restaurant or cafe area. The wood grains and variety of colors complement the lush greenery of plants and provide privacy for your outdoor space. Teak wood is particularly durable and resistant to outdoor elements such as sunlight, heat, and rain, making it a suitable option for pool decking. With minimal maintenance, teak wood can maintain its beauty for years to come.
To clean your wooden surfaces, start by removing large debris such as fallen leaves and paper. Using a vacuum machine is an easy way to remove dust from the grooves between the wood. For stubborn dirt and debris, use a mixture of warm water and ammonia in a ratio of 1:4 and wipe the wood with a sponge mop, making sure to wipe parallel to the grain. Allow the wood to dry completely for at least 3-5 hours at a temperature of 15 ℃ or higher. Use an oil-based floor cleaner specifically designed for hardwood.
Teak wood naturally contains oil that acts as a mold and insect repellent while preventing cracking in high temperatures. However, this oil can evaporate over time when exposed to direct sunlight, resulting in a silver-grey discoloration. Depending on your country’s weather conditions and the amount of direct sunlight exposure, you may need to apply teak oil several times a year (between 4-8 times). Applying the oil with a clean rag, following the wood grain, and rubbing it in well is essential. Avoid applying a heavy layer of oil, and remove any excess after an hour using a new clean rag. Always remove spills immediately to prevent stains, and wear protective gear such as rubber gloves, eye protection, and a mask while using any chemical materials.
